Civil servants
As Members of JCA, civil servants are expected to
make a commitment to participate in the research and educational
activities of the University. They are encouraged to collaborate as
PI or Co-PI in proposed research with other JCA members, are expected
to attend JCA meetings and JCA sponsored seminars, to share in the
governance of the Center, including the definition of its scientific
and administrative life.
If a civil servant has an adjunct
appointment with the Physics Department, the commitment could also
include teaching and offering lectures as part of an existing course.
Civil servants that are members of JCA are eligible to be admitted as
special members of the Graduate School. The Department Chair must
nominate JCA civil servants to be a special member of the Graduate
School. As a special member of the Graduate School, civil servants
will be eligible to teach courses restricted to graduate students;
co-direct master's theses; co-direct doctoral dissertations;
participate fully in meetings of the graduate faculty; and serve as a
member of Department and Graduate Council committees.

Research faculty of JCA
As Members of JCA, the research faculty are expected to
make a commitment to participate in the research and educational
activities of the University. They are encouraged to collaborate as
PI or Co-PI in proposed research with other JCA members, are expected
to attend JCA meetings and JCA sponsored seminars, to share in the
governance of the Center, including the definition of its scientific
and administrative life.
Appointees to the research professor track
are expected to teach one course every other year.
Research professor
track appointees are eligible to be Associate members of the Graduate
School. Associate members of the Graduate School must be recommended
by the Department Chair. Associate members of the Graduate School are
eligible to: teach courses restricted to graduate students; direct
master's theses; serve as a member of doctoral committees; participate
fully in meetings of the graduate faculty assembly; and serve as a
member of departmental graduate committees.
