Paddles

There are two hand paddles located in both the computer room and the telescope dome.

One is used to move the telescope around.

The second paddle moves the GAM pick-off mirror, for acquiring a guide star.

The telescope can be moved at three different speeds.

  1. Slew: for rapid motion of the telescope, as in moving to the next target.
Press the [SLEW] button at the same time as a direction button: [N], [S], [E], or [W].
  2. Set: for centring the target, once the target is in the field of view.
Press the [SET] button at the same time as a direction button.
  3. Guide: for fine control of the position of the target, usually for guiding.
    Just press a direction button.
