Shutting Down
- Turn off tracking
- On the TCS panel,
flip down the [TRACKING] switch
- Park the dome
- Send the dome home: On the TCS panel, flip down the [DOME TRACK] switch.
- Wait until the dome stops moving. You can hear it while it is moving.
- Halt the dome: On the TCS panel, flip down the [AUTO DOME] switch.
- Replace the
Shower Cap and
Finder Scope Cover
- Upstairs: move the telescope to due north, as described in
Starting Up, Step 8.
- Use the stepladder to replace them.
- Secure the outside door, if it was opened.
- Turn off the venting fan, if it was turned on, by rotating
the thermostat clockwise.
- Turn of the CCD Power Strip, located on the North side of the telescope itself.
- Turn off the dome lights.
- Exit the Dome, closing the firedoor as you exit.
- Pull out the black knob in the upper left of the door, and pull down
on the handled cord as you descend the stairs.
- Close the mirror doors
- On the TCS panel,
flip the [MIRROR DOORS] switch all the way down
(it has three positions).
- On the TCS console:
- 4) Miscellaneous Menu
- 5) Open/Close Doors
- Type 0, then NO
- 0) Return to Main Menu
- Close the dome doors
- On the TCS console:
- 4) Miscellaneous Menu
- 6) Open/Close Dome
- Type 0, then NO
- 0) Return to Main Menu
- Wait for the doors to close (about 2 minutes)
- Put the telescope in the Home Position
- On the TCS console:
- 2) Movement Menu
- 5) Zenith
- 7) Start Slew
- Emergence: if the telescope is pointed too far toward the horizon, then sometime it gets stuck. To point it back, just push it towards zenith with your hands, then use the slew paddle to adjust it.
- When the telescope has stopped slewing (about 30 s. The
TCS quietly beeps when it is done), turn the drives off.
- On the TCS panel, flip down the [DRIVES] switch.
- On the TCS panel, press in the [HALT MOTORS] button.
- button in = motors off
- button out = motors on
- At this point, all toggle switches on the TCS panel on the top row should
be down except [TRACK/TRACK AUX] which should be up and [EXCOM] which may be up
or down, and the [HALT MOTORS] button should be pushed in.
- Log out of the ICC (aka telescope2)
- Depends on the window manager
- Do not turn the computers off!
The ICC computer MUST be left on, as it is part of the JCA Linux Network.
The TCS computer and console should remain on for ease of use.
- Turn off all the monitors, lights.
- Lock the Door and Go Home.
- Double check as you are driving away, that the dome is really closed.
