Other Hydrogen Series Lines

The Hydrogen Lyman Series (sometimes referred to as the K series) are transitions between the n = 1 shell (ie. the K-shell) and the n > 1 shells.

The Balmer series (sometimes referred to as the L series) are transitions between the n = 2 shell (ie. the L-shell) and the n > 2 shells. There are several line components associated with permitted transitions, and are sometimes distinguished based upon the lower configuration as follows:
Lower Config Name
2s 2S1/2 LI series
2p 2Po1/2 LII series
2p 2Po3/2 LIII series
