Grading Details

Your grade will be determined as follows:
Final Exam 30% Date: Dec 15 10:30-12:30 [Phys201]
MidTerm Exam#1 20% Date: Oct 09 11:00-11:50 [Phys201]
MidTerm Exam#2 20% Date: Nov 08 11:00-11:50 [Phys201]
Quizzes etc 15% Dates: Various
Homework 15% Dates: Various

Please note that in Exam & Quizzes 'partial credits' are awarded for most questions - e.g. in an exam question worth 3 points, you will get some credit even if you (say) make an error in the math. (The exact details obviously depend on the question & your response.)

Final Exam (30%):
An exam at the end of the course. The questions may cover any of the material covered by the course.

Mid Term#1 (20%):
An exam approximately 1/3 of the way into the course, covering all the material covered to date (including related/assumed background material from PHYS 111 & 112).

Mid Term#2 (20%):
An exam approximately 2/3 of the way into the course. This will cover all material covered in class (and Homework) between MidTerm#1 and the day of the exam.

Quizzes (15%):
There will be a series of quizzes during class (approximately once per week). Students will be warned in the prior lecture. The questions will mainly be associated with material covered since the previous quiz - although occasionally questions from early parts of the course will be included. The format of the Quizzes may vary. Except under extremely exceptional circumstances, Make-Ups will not be allowed for Quizzes. However we will drop your lowest Quiz score when calculating your final grade.

Homework (15%):
Homework will be set periodically (approximately once per week), and will consist of both (ungraded) reading assignments & (graded) problems to work. You are strongly encouraged to keep up with the reading assigments, and of course to attempt the problems. You may discuss home assignments with other students either verbally, or via the Discussion Boards. However, the final answers submitted to all problems should be your own work (not just a copy of somebody else's) and include all the steps to the final solution. Homework should be handed on or before the specified date/time. No late homework will be accepted for any reason. However we will drop your lowest Homework score when calculating your final grade.
