Mark Henriksen began trumpet lessons at age 11 in Los Angeles. His early musical experiences included school band and orchestra. While in high school, performance opportunities quickly progressed to playing in garage bands with the future founding members of the Grammy award winning band, Toto, and with brass players from the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He has a Masters Degree in Music Performance from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and was lead trumpet with the CUA-community Jazz Band. Since coming to the area, he has performed on numerous occasions and recorded with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has played for the Paris Opera Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Miami City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Houston Ballet, the Baltimore Opera, the Wolf Trap Barnes Opera, and the Washington National Opera. He has served as Principal Trumpet of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the orchestra's of Annapolis and Fairfax. A career highlight was playing in the BSO with childhood idol, Doc Severinsen, as soloist.

Teaching Philosophy

My approach to teaching the trumpet has been influenced by my years of study with James Stamp. Not only will it produce the most pleasing sound but it also facilitates development of a smooth, clean technique, opens up the upper register, increases endurance dramatically, and makes trumpet playing easy. Simply put, it will “build your chops” and your confidence. Beginners through advanced students of any age (children through adults) are welcome. I enjoy trouble-shooting player's problems. My method will improve any student, from beginner to professional.
